Buongiorno!!
I hope everyone had a really awesome week and that everyone is doing well! I hope that I can get this email in and it all make sense to everyone.
I forgot to mention that we got “Hey Elder!”ed (When someone sees us and yells for us or runs into us and we get to have a nice conversation) the other week and I am not sure if the family were members or not. They were from Charleston, South Carolina, but were just at Mattoon not too long ago for a funeral so they knew Charleston. I thought that was pretty cool. They were talking up Monicals pretty big.
Last P-day we had lunch with a member and it was really good. It was chicken, rice, and noodles. It was really good and a good time with the district and the members. After that we went and visited this church near the Baberini Metro station which would be close to Fontana di Trevi and this church is nicknamed The Church of Bones [It is actually called the Capuchin Crypt]. It was really interesting. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures so I didn’t get any at all. But it was a church that sometime in the 18th century, if I am not mistaken, they started to make art with bones. It was quite interesting and it was really weird all the same haha.
After that we had a family home evening in the park where we invited members, investigators, and English course students. I thought we were going to have a good turn out but only 2 members and an English course student came. I was glad that they showed up though. We had a good time, but we tried to get this English course student as an investigator and it didn’t work out like we had hoped. I was really hoping it would because he is super cool, nice, and funny. He really likes music too so I always love talking music with him. Maybe it just isn’t his time and we will have another chance in the future.
The rest of the week we had a lot of our plans fall through. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get to do all that we had wanted, but we were trying our best. We did have a good service opportunity with one of our investigators in his garden and then had a nice lunch with him. I am excited to be working with him again. We had a nice lesson with one of our new investigators from the past two weeks and they are a part member family. They are super nice and really fun to go and teach. We are really excited to be working with them. We got to see two less actives. One new one we started seeing and one that we have been seeing for a while that I always love going to see. We get a couple of people back this next week from vacation so we will hopefully be able to see them this week and look for some new investigators too.
This past Saturday Sorella Nagliati received an emergency transfer. She is being transferred to Rome 5 and that was a surprise. She really loved it here and really loved the people she was in association with. She was hoping to finish out her mission here, but the Lord has different plans for her. She leaves later today. I appreciate the hard work that she continues to put in and she tries her hardest to please the Lord. She was definitely a great example to us and the people that she worked with.
So I saw this week how amazing the spirit is in our lives and the guidance it gives us. We receive these promptings that truly lead for us to be able to do amazing things. These promptings can come with thoughts or feelings, and I have seen as we heed the promptings we can truly bless those around us. I am so thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost and the opportunity to be blessed with it. I know that as we live worthy of its presence that we can receive that special guidance in our life, warnings, edification, and much more. The Holy Ghost can be a constant companion for those that live worthy of his presence. It also takes making sure that we are in tune with the spirit and act on the promptings he gives us. Something I liked from this past week from studying was how we need to always remember Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We see at the beginning of The Book of Mormon in Nephi what the Lord promises to people of the land.
14 And now, when I, Nephi, had heard these words, I remembered the words of the Lord which he spake unto me in the wilderness, saying that: Inasmuch as thy seed shall keep my commandments, they shall prosper in the land of promise.
We see over and over again, though, how many times they continue to forget the Lord their God, and they fall back into doing inquiry and the Lord sends afflictions to help them remember. He does this because he loves them and knows that through obedience to the commandments is when we are truly happy and truly free. We just have to always remember the Lord even when we are prospering and he is giving us blessings.
I am looking forward to this next week. I really hope to be able to just keep doing the Lord’s will and do all I can to do what he would have me do. Thank you all for the support and I hope to hear from you all soon. Take care and have a great week!
Love,
Anziano Garrett
